There are two basic psychological needs; to love and to be loved in return, including our need to feel valued and worthwhile to ourselves and to others. No matter age, sex, or race, all humans have the same essential needs.
These basic needs, if not met, do cause suffering. Many people who cannot meet and fulfill their own needs have never learned how. Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and self-worth are the result of feelings of disconnect from others, and result in feelings of loneliness.
Community is what is required in order to meet these needs; relationships with family and friends, and the ability to connect with people in a genuine, respectful and loving way.
That’s where my services come in; to help you make the changes in behavior and learn how to have those healthy, safe and supportive relationships.
I have raised three children of my own who are now married and raising their own children. I have known from a young age that helping people in a counseling capacity was in my future. I went back to school in 1998 to finish my education including a Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University.
I spent several years in my training and internship working with individuals suffering from substance abuse and addiction. I have worked in this capacity with many male patients. I also spent close to a year counseling elementary school children, including working with parents teaching parenting skills.
I have been licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist since 2009, and have worked with many patients suffering from trauma, grief & loss, anxiety & depression, including (ACA’s) Adult Children of Alcoholics, and co-dependency issues.
I am integrative in my approach in order to address my patient’s specific problems and needs. I am trained in EMDR to accommodate patients with trauma histories along with experiences of recent traumatic events. I am also a Christian Counselor when called upon. I treat Adults, Couples, Families, Adolescents, and Children. I am certified in Relationship Enhancement.
We will work together as a team to accomplish your goals for therapy as well as establish a strong, supportive, and trustworthy relationship required to make desired changes.
I especially enjoy working with Families; from helping parents with parenting skills, to helping change family dynamics to discover a healthier way to relate to each other in order to find joy in being together.
I see adults of all ages, although my niche seems to be young adults. My goal in working with Couples is to help them come to have a fulfilling relationship where they can, again, truly can learn to enjoy spending time together where needs are not only met, but respected.
